Bashir Lazhar es el maestro suplente de una escuela primaria de Québec. Él viene huyendo de la violencia de Argelia, su país natal. Al aplicar sus métodos pedagógicos poco convencionales, basados en la justicia y el valor para enfrentar los problemas, se topa con autoridades escolares injustas e incomprensivas ante sus propuestas. Esta obra evoca la honestidad de un hombre confrontada con la dureza de un sistema.

His unconventional teaching methods based on justice and courage to face the problems are unsympathetic for the school officials. This play evokes the honesty of a man confronted with the hardness of a system. Bashir Lazhar emphasizes a universal theme, the migration and the cultural shock in the classroom.
